With cheap home insurance, the claim is often where it turns out to be expensive. Square-metre rates, contents values, riders – at true value, with insurers competing, in plain words.

Underinsurance is a common and costly mistake – it is worth looking at this first: setting the value correctly and checking it once a year can reduce it to a minimum.
Water leaks, burst pipes, storm, glass – the fine print matters most at the most frequent claims.

The full process with a timeline – and the March switching window: How it works →
The most common and most expensive home-insurance mistake is not a bad insurer – it is a badly set value.
Read it →What you do in the first days greatly improves the speed and provability of the claim – but the amount of the settlement is determined by the contract itself (sum insured, deductible, limits, exclusions).
Read it →In March, home insurance can be switched regardless of the renewal date – under the rules in force. What is it good for?
Read it →The building's policy protects the common property; yours protects your flat and its contents – together they cover the two sides of your home; the exact boundary is set by the terms of the two contracts.
Read it →A realistic contents sum for signing, a ready list at claim time – one of the page's most valuable helpers.
Read it →We promise no prices – but we openly explain the factors: building, values, deductible, optional covers, claims record.
Read it →If the sum insured is below the true rebuilding value, the insurer may pay proportionally: at a home underinsured by 50%, half of the loss. That is why the first step is setting the values correctly.
The market price also prices the location; the rebuilding value shows what it costs to build the same house again. Insurance must be sized to the latter – which can be estimated well on a per-square-metre basis.
At the most frequent damages: water ingress, burst pipes, storm, glass breakage. This is where terms differ the most (deductibles, exclusions, limits) – my comparison table puts exactly these side by side.
Walking through it room by room, it adds up surprisingly fast: furniture, appliances, clothes, sports gear. It is worth setting a rough figure and handling high-value items (jewellery, electronics) separately.
With a mortgage, the bank typically requires insurance and a lender’s clause – but you are free to choose the insurer. It pays to run the market rather than automatically accept the bank’s offer.

As an independent broker I make insurers compete for you – not the other way round. My advice costs you nothing.

lakas.biz is the information and quote-request page of Emánuel Dávid Tukacs, independent insurance broker. As a broker I act on the client's behalf: I compare offers from several insurers, and the decision always rests with the client. My advice is free of charge to the client – the brokerage remuneration is paid by the insurer.
